Moorpark College Distance Education Courses

Distance Education is a course delivery method in which students do not have to be physically present in the same location as the instructor or other students. Course content is delivered through technology, such as the internet or pre-recorded programs. Students and instructors communicate with each other using online and other technologies.

What types of Distance Education courses are there?

Moorpark College offers three types of Distance Education courses:

Online Course Online Only: The course is conducted through the internet using the Canvas Learning Management System. Regular weekly content, including all instruction, assignments, assessments and communication, is conducted online. Some online courses require an orientation meeting scheduled on campus.
Onsite Testing Online with onsite testing: As in an online class, the course is conducted through the internet but course examinations are scheduled to occur on campus. Attendance at examinations is required. Photo identification may be required on the day of the examination.
Hybrid Course Hybrid: A portion of the class instruction, assignments, assessments and communication is conducted online and the rest is conducted during regularly scheduled classroom meetings. The schedule will indicate that a certain number of hours per week are arranged, while the rest of the hours have listed days, times, with an assigned room.
